How I Think Julius Caesar Should Have Ended...

"O coward that I am to live so long
To see my best friend ta'en before my face!"
~Cassius, 5.3.37-8, after Pindarus tells him that Titinius was overtaken by the army below

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who's outraged by this ending. This, therefore, is how it should have been:

Pindarus: [above] Titinius is enclosed round about With horsemen that make to him on the spur Yet he spurs on. Now they are almost on him. Now, Titinius! Now some light, O, he lights too! He's ta'en (shout) And hark! They shout for joy. Cassius: Come down; behold no more. O coward that I am to live so long To see my best friend ta'en before my face! Meanwhile, in the camp below... Brutus: Ho, Titinius! come hither-- I put on thy brows this wreath of victory And bid you give it to yond Cassius. Titinius: Marry, I will And be back with him To celebrate thy victory today [Exit Titinius] Back on the hill... Cassius: ...Guide thou the... Titinius: Cassius! Cassius: [uncovers eyes] Titinius! But wer't thou not overta'en In yonder camp? Titinius: Not I, dear Cassius, I met thy friends, who, victorious in their ventures Put on my brows this wreath and bid me give it thee.
So, in a nutshell, what ends up happening is that Brutus and Cassius win the war against Antony and Octavius, create a third triumverate (three's the charm...)--the only one that works--with some unknown third party (Titinius, perhaps?) and everyone's happy! :)

(and I probably butchered the entire thing...But oh well! It was fun! :) )
